China 2012: gates to the Forbidden City

Actually, there are several entrances to visit the forbidden city.

Well, I think most of the time, tourists shall enter through the meridian gate, because they come from the Tiananmen square where we can see the Mao portrait.

If you have enough time, I advise you to go to the Beihai park, northward from the forbidden city, to get a likely aerial and panoramic view of the Forbidden City, or visit the Jingshan park to get a better view from the Coal hill (which is an artificial hill). We didn't go the Coal hill, so I will not show you any pictures of the place, except this one taken from the Meridian gate:
